Teddies to Work Their Magic!

An article in the RIBI magazine from RC Lutterworth got the chair of our Community Committee thinking! Members and friends of the Rotary Club of Lutterworth knit small and adorable teddies and send these to children in hospitals in the UK and beyond. Recently teddies have been sent via the charity Intercare to Cameroon, Ghana, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Zambia and the response from the young recipients has been overwhelming. More recently teddies have been given to vulnerable children in the UK in a variety of circumstances including Women's Refuges. To date (March 2014) 3,500 teddies have been sent around the world.

Using the knitting talents of a 'Knit and Natter' group from a local church, 22 delightful teddies have been knitted and, using our club as distributor, are on their way to Ealing Women's Refuge. Our knitting colleagues are really enthusiastic and are already well on their way to knitting another 22!

We are exploring ways of maximising the use of these teddies for other 'Good Causes' locally in a children's setting. Some of our teddies will join the others from RC Lutterworth and be enjoyed by very disadvantaged children abroad in hospital and other settings.

To date all the wool and teddy filling has been donated and the knitters have really been motivated to knit these adorable cuddly characters! The H&N teddies are on the move!
