Party in the Park June 2014

Sunday 22nd June was a hot sunny day and attracted thousands of people to the annual ‘Party in the Park’ (Pitshanger Park in Ealing) where our club had a stall raising funds for two charities to support disadvantaged children.

The first is Log Cabin, a local centre for children with special needs in Northfields where many of our club members have recently restored the nature and picnic area. The second is Ealing Women’s Refuge where we aim to buy presents for the children in the refuge at Christmas. Our tombola proved to be very popular with many lovely prizes very kindly donated by local businesses. The children kept our members busy all afternoon trying to make the highest score on the two shuffleboards and we were able to sell some beautiful new books for adults and children donated by a publisher. We also had a small selection of jewellery for sale.

It was an exhausting day for us all but we believe we entertained our ‘punters’, judging by those who kept returning to our stall (!) and we will now be able to help our two charities. As a club we would like to thank all those who generously donated our prizes. As chair of the Community Committee of the Rotary Club of Hanwell and Northfields, I would also like to thank all our members who worked so hard before during and after the event to make it a success.
