Rotary Young Chef District Final

A teenager from Trinity High School in Woodford was judged top chef at the District Finals of the Rotary Young Chef competition at the weekend. April Partridge pleased the palates of the judges with her culinary skills. She will now go on to compete in the Regional Finals next month. The District Finals took place at Westminster Kingsway College, London's premier catering college where Jamie Oliver and a number of other celebrity chef's trained. In second place was Monish Paul from West Hatch High School in Chigwell, Essex And Jaspal Minhas from Kingsbury High School in North West London was in third place. 14 budding Jamie Oliver's from a dozen schools across Greater London and Essex battled it out for the title of top Chef and a place in the next round of the competition at the Rotary Young Chef Regional Finals on 20th March, 2010. Each competitor had to cook a two course meal (main course & dessert) for two people, with the ingredients costing just a few pounds. They were marked not only on their cooking skills, but also the healthiness of the menu, the overall presentation of the meal. The panel of judges was chaired by Gary Lee, Head Chef at the Ivy Restaurant. Gary was supported by Romi Sumaria from Shana Foods who sponsor the London rounds of the competition. Janathan Warner from Westminster Kingsway College was the other judge. The District Governor of Rotary in London Martin Gudde and the Deputy Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Carolyn Keen were also there. The three district winners received: -

-  A day's work experience at The Ivy

-  A day's work experience at Westminster Kingsway College

-  A set of chef's knives and apron

-  The winner receieved a trophy and shield. All competitors received a Shana goodie bag. The Regional Finals will be held at Westminster Kingsway College.
